Let's start from the beginning... what does Lapidary even mean??
A lapidary (the word means "concerned with stones") is an artist or artisan who forms stone, mineral, gemstones, and other suitably durable materials (amber, shell, jet, pearl, copal, coral, horn and bone, glass and other synthetics) into decorative items such as engraved gems, including cameos, or cabochons, and faceted designs. Hardstone carving is the term in art history for the objects produced and the craft.
My name is Dobrila Pintar and I am a designer/owner of Eleven Eleven Jewelry. One of my passions is doing Lapidary work. I have attended 2 years of training at the exclusive Ghost Ranch Jewelry school, where I learned various techniques in dealing with stones, cabochons, amber, turquoise, and other precious stones. It is a very interesting process! You have to pick out the stone you like, cut it, shape it, shine it, and so on, to make it perfectly fit for your jewelry piece. I included some pictures so everyone can see the process and the end result of lapidary work.
