Dobrila Exhibiting at local block party

Artists and custom jewelry maker, Dobrila Pitar, will be exhibiting at the annual Festival on Prairie Avenue, Saturday, September 10, 2011. The festival location is 18th and Prairie Ave. The family-friendly event is from 12 noon – 6 p.m. Stop by and visit Dobrila to learn about her custom jewelry and find out about her new studio location at the Bridgeport Art Center. Dobrila will be teaching classes and workshops for adults and children. Be sure to ask about her class schedule for this fall and winter.

What is Lampworking?

Dates Back to the 1st Century B.C.

Lampworking (sometimes called flameworking or torchworking) is a practiced art form that dates back to the 1st Century B.C. Murana, Italy, became the center for lampworking in the 14^th century. Often confused with glassblowing, lampworking does not use a blowpipe to manipulate the glass. Instead, glass rods are heated and manipulated over a flame or torch that uses propane or natural gas mixed with oxygen.

In the beginning, lampworking was done using oil lamps (thus the name). Artist had to blow air into the flame using a pipe. Lampworking artwork includes beads for jewelry, Christmas tree ornaments, paperweights, and much more.

Dobrila’s Technique

Lampworking is the technique that Dobrila Pintar used to create her jewelry. The technique guarantees that each bead produced is unique and special. Dobrila sometimes combines glass beads with silver and other metals to produced interesting necklaces, bracelets, and rings.

Keeping Up With Dobrila!

Dobrila Pintar has a busy schedule. Besides teaching and custom jewelry making, she’ll be exhibiting at a couple of Chicago festivals.

Festivals and Block Parties

On September 10, 2011, Dobrila will be at the Festival on Prairie Ave. The festival is located at S. Prairie Ave. and 18th St. The annual block party is a family event with games and activities for children, as well as tours of two of Chicago’s historic homes: the Clarke House and Glessner House museums for adults.

2010 Bash on Wabash

Bash on Wabash and Lincoln Park Art Faire On September 17 and 18, 2011, Dobrila will be in two places at once! She’ll be exhibiting at the Bash on Wabash in the South Loop and the 14th Annual Lincoln Park Art Faire. Dobrila and her daughter will be splitting time between events.

In addition to the above, Dobrila is working on some art class proposals to submit to the Daystar Center. She is considering classes for both children and adults. We’ll keep you posted when more details become available.

One-of-a-kind pieces take time

In the new studio

Dobrila Pintar, artist and jewelry maker, just moved into a new studio. Watch this short video demonstration on how she makes glass beads. It’s a fairly labor-intensive process, but the results can be pretty spectacular. By using various flaming techniques, Dobrila can customize each bead, which makes every piece of her jewelry unique one-of-a-kind creations.
